JEB was considered the most likely team to win early on in the tournament, but suffered an upset loss versus UPSB in Round 4. Menowa* in particular was considered very strong for his time and this was exploited by their opponents in order to beat JEB.
The UPSB team placed Pen Ninja in the Technical category to avoid using their best spinners in a losing battle, predicting that JEB would choose Menowa* for Technical to go up against i.suk or Eriror. They then put their strongest members in the other categories, leaving Menowa* with the only victory for JEB.

Menowa* had adopted a pattern of using opponent's material against them, which was praised for its creativity but criticized for producing inferior results to the originals.
