VAIN's G3 designates each G3 mod made by JEB spinner VAIN.

Construction of VAING*

Preparation

  1. Prepare the G3 barrel by filing the square and front bump.
  2. Cut the clip of the Hyperjell cap.
  3. Cut 2.8 cm of Hyper Jell grip.
  4. Cut 8 mm of the Signo grip.
  5. Cut 4 rings of Anyball grip.
  6. Cut a 9 mm part of flat G3 grip.

Assembly

Front side
  1. Place the 9 mm part of flat G3 grip on the front of the G3 barrel.
  2. Stack the tip on the G3 front: Signo tip onto the G3 tip.
  3. Cover the remaining visible part of G3 and the tip stack with a full HGG grip (ring side first).
Cap side
  1. Fold the Hyperjell grip and fit it inside the RSVP grip, leaving approximately 8–10 mm exposed. Use the 2.8 cm Hyperjell section.
  2. Cover the visible part of the Hyperjell grip with the cut Signo grip.
  3. Place the assembly inside the Hyperjell cap (side with Signo grip first).
  4. Wrap some tape on the back of the G3 body and connect it to the Hyperjell cap.
  5. Add 4 rings of Anyball on the Hyperjell cap.

Text tutorial

  1. Prepare the G3 barrel by removing its grip and filing the front protrusions. Keep its grip and the grip from a second G3.
  2. Remove the Frixion rear eraser and its internal piece. Wrap tape around the eraser and fit it inside the G3 front.

  3. Stack the front tips in this order: plastic G3, Signo, G1. Secure the stack with tape.

  4. Fit two Anyball blocks to the G3 front, attach the tip stack, and cover it with the Lakubo grip.





  5. Slit the second G3 grip lengthwise and fit it inside the first G3 grip.

  6. Stack three Hybrid Fine tips and secure them with tape. Fit a suitable small grip over the stack and insert it into the Frixion cap.



  7. Insert the nested G3 grips, followed by one Anyball block, into the cap.

  8. Overgrip the cap with seven D-1K blocks followed by two Anyball blocks. Fit the Hybrid Fine rear piece where the Frixion eraser was.

  9. Attach the cap to the G3 rear, adding tape as needed to secure the fit and adjust the balance.

Preparation

  1. Cut 5 blocks of Anyball grip.
  2. Prepare the G3 barrel by filing the square and front bump.
  3. Cut the Hybrid fine grip to 1 cm.
  4. Cut 3 cm from the front of the CT barrel (tip included).
  5. Cut the section with stripes from the flat part of the G3 grip.
  6. Cut G3 grip with the square vertically two times (one part should have all 4 squares)
  7. Turn the Earphone piece inside out, then cut the cylindrical part from the dome.
  8. Cut the dome part of the HGR backplug.

Assembly

Front side
  1. Put 1 cm of Hybrid fine grip then the Tect ring.
  2. Roll the square part of G3 grip and put it inside the G3 front. Screw back the G3 tip.
  3. Stack the Hybrid Fine tip onto the G3 tip, then stack the Signo tip onto the Hybrid Fine tip. Secure the Signo/Hybrid Fine joint with tape.
  4. Cover the visible portion of G3 front with the Signo DX grip.
Cap side
  1. Remove the internal plastic piece from the Frixion cap. Trim the protrusion from the HGR backplug, join it to that retained internal piece, and fit the joint to the G3 rear.

  2. Place the stripe section of the G3 grip on the CT part.
  3. Place the cylinder section of the earplug piece on the CT part.

  4. Place the second Hybrid Fine tip inside the Frixion cap, then insert the prepared CT section.
  5. Connect the G3 back to the Frixion cap.
  6. Add the 5 stripes of Anyball grip on the Frixion cap.

  1. Prepare the G3 barrel, retaining its grip, plastic tip and cap rubber stopper. Remove the backplug.
  2. Cut an approximately 9 mm Signo grip section, at the third dimple from one end, and fit it to the G3 front.
  3. Place the G3 cap rubber inside its plastic tip and screw the tip back onto the barrel.
  4. Fit the Jimnie Knock plastic tip over the G3 tip, then cover the stack with a whole Lakubo grip.
  5. Empty the Frixion Colors cap, retaining and replacing its outer eraser.
  6. Remove approximately 1 mm from the smooth end of the Jimnie Knock grip. Cut the retained G3 grip lengthwise, roll it and insert it into the Jimnie Knock grip.
  7. Insert a Hi-Tec-C tip into the Frixion cap, followed by the nested grips.
  8. Cut a second Signo section at the fourth dimple from the opposite end and fit it over the Frixion cap. Stretch it cautiously if needed.
  9. Add a little tape around the G3 rear to secure the cap and adjust balance, then attach it. Vary the amount of nested grip if further balance adjustment is needed.

Construction of Flare Vain G3

  1. Prepare the G3 front. Fit a 1.1 cm section of the creator’s unidentified Needlepoint-like grip; adjust its length if needed to suit the stretched HGG grip.
  2. Stack the front tips in this order: G3, HGR, then Hi-Tec-C. Place the G3 cap rubber between HGR and Hi-Tec-C to join them, then cover the front with the HGG grip.
  3. Cut and smooth the Jimnie cap clip. Remove the Frixion eraser and fit it into the HGG tip. Wrap vinyl tape around the protruding rubber end that does not fit into the tip.
  4. Push this tip/rubber assembly to the outer end of the Jimnie cap, keeping the tape in position.
  5. Cut 2.9 cm of Hyperjell grip from its unrounded end and 5 mm from a rounded end. A second grip may be needed to obtain both sections.
  6. Cut the smooth G3 grip section lengthwise, roll it, and insert it into the long Hyperjell section, followed by the 5 mm Hyperjell section.
  7. Insert this nested grip assembly into the Jimnie cap, followed by one KILAT grip block. The creator identifies KILAT as an Anyball substitute.
  8. The creator wrapped white tape around his red cap to conceal its colour; this tape also affects the balance.
  9. Tape the G3 rear as needed and attach the prepared cap. Adjust tape and balance to suit the cap colour and grip lengths used.

  1. Prepare the G3 barrel.
  2. Remove the Jimnie cap clip. Inside the cap, insert an HGR tip followed by an HF tip.
  3. Insert a whole RSVP grip followed by 6 mm of Needlepoint grip.

  4. At the G3 front, fit three SuperGrip blocks, one Anyball block, one Tect ring, then a Lakubo grip.
  5. Stack the front tips in this order: Signo, G3, then HGR. Glue the stack together.
  6. Fit the stack inside the Lakubo grip. The creator specifies that the grip alone connects the stack to the G3; glue may also secure this joint if it wobbles.

  7. Add an optional barrel insert, wrap vinyl tape around the G3 rear and attach the prepared Jimnie cap.

This describes the initial construction. In the creator’s 31 May 2016 revision, the front Signo tip became G1 and the outer cap Anyball became the grip fitted to a Kuru Toga tip.

  1. Prepare the G3 barrel, retaining its backplug.
  2. Fit three Anyball blocks to the G3 front.
  3. Stack the front tips in this order: G3, Jell Be, then Signo. Cover the stack with an HGG grip.
  4. Empty the Frixion cap, removing all removable internal pieces and its eraser rubber.
  5. Inside the cap, insert an HF tip followed by a Jell Be tip, then a whole, unstretched HGG grip.
  6. Fit four or five Anyball blocks over the cap.
  7. Place the G3 cap’s black rubber stopper into the opening where the Frixion eraser was.
  8. Attach the prepared cap to the G3 rear, keeping the G3 backplug in place.



Construction of Reunion VAIN G*0

  1. Prepare the G3 barrel.
  2. Cut 1.4 cm of Signo Broad grip and fit it to the G3 front.

  3. Stack the front tips in this order: metal G3, plastic SuperGrip, then Jell Be. The creator identifies the first two donors tentatively; the metal G3 need not fit tightly onto his worn barrel.

  4. Cover the stack with an HGG grip.

  5. Fit a Dr. Grip ring to the outer grip end to retain the Jell Be tip.
  6. Inside a Jimnie cap, insert an HGG tip followed by a Jell Be tip. Tape between these tips is optional.

  7. Insert a whole HGG grip, rimless end first.

  8. Add cap grips to adjust balance. The creator uses one Anyball block and the grip from the inexpensive Kuru Toga tip.
  9. Fit an old-style Marvy marker backplug into the G3 rear. Adjust the fit carefully if using an insert; the creator reports that newer Marvy backplugs do not fit and notes that his own G3 barrel was already cracked.



  10. Attach the prepared Jimnie cap.

  2. Trim the Uniball Air cap clip, leaving approximately 2.4–2.5 cm measured from its outer end, as pictured in the source.
  3. Inside the Air cap, insert the HGR tip followed by the Jell Be tip.
  4. Cut a 1.7 cm Hyperjell grip section and insert it into the cap.
  5. Cut a 6 mm Signo grip section, roll it and fit it inside the striped G3 grip section. Insert this nested assembly into the cap.
  6. Cut the rim from the HGG grip and insert it last, then fit the cap to the G3 rear.
  7. At the G3 front, fit an 8 mm Needlepoint section followed by a 5 mm Hyperjell section.
  8. Fit the SuperGrip grip in reverse orientation, striped end toward the barrel.
  9. Stack the front tips in this order: SuperGrip, HGG, then Signo.

Preparation

  1. Prepare the G3 barrel by filing the square and front bump.
  2. Cut the clip of the Air cap.
  3. Cut around 6/7 mm of Needlepoint grip.
  4. Cut 7 mm and around 2.7 cm of the Hyperjell grip.
  5. Cut a 2-block KILAT grip section; the creator describes it as an Anyball substitute.

Assembly

Front side
  1. Place the 7 mm of Needlepoint grip and then the 7 mm of Hyperjell grip on the front of the G3 barrel.
  2. Stack the tip on the G3 front following this order: G3, Gel roller and G1. Wrap tape to make the stack stable.
  3. Cover the remaining visible part of G3 and the tip stack with a full Jetstream grip.
Cap side
  1. Inside the AIR cap, insert the HGG tip and a KILAT grip section to secure it, followed by approximately 2.7 cm of Hyperjell grip, a Tect grip section, and the Ballsign backplug. Push the backplug into the Tect grip.

  2. Connect the back of the G3 on the Air cap.

This is the creator’s Shiny Story build, previously headed “VAIN’s original G3” on the wiki.

  1. Prepare the G3 barrel. Cut 1.3 cm of Signo Broad grip and fit it to the front. The creator corrects the video’s printed 1.8 cm measurement to 1.3 cm in its description.
  2. Fit an HF/HGG tip over the plastic tip from a SuperGrip ballpoint.
  3. Fit the Laknock grip in reverse orientation over this assembly, then add the metal G3 tip and the inner Dr. Grip ring at the outer end.
  4. Remove the V5 cap clip, coloured end piece and internal spring; replace the end piece after emptying the cap.
  5. Cut 2.5 cm of Jimnie Knock grip. Insert the removable BT mechanical-pencil clicker component into its barrel-side end.
  6. Insert the Signo tip and prepared grip into the V5 cap, with the BT component toward the barrel.
  7. Tape the G3 rear and the exposed grip as needed to secure the joint and adjust balance, then attach the cap.

  1. Prepare the G3 barrel and remove its backplug. Fit 1.2 cm of Signo DX grip to the front.
  2. Remove the G3 cap rubber and trim its narrow projection. Insert it into the G3 front until its shoulder sits at the barrel opening.
  3. Replace the plastic G3 tip, fit a whole SuperGrip grip, then stack the Hi-Tec-C and metal G3 tips over the plastic tip.
  4. Empty the Frixion Colors cap, removing its eraser and internal piece.
  5. Screw the Jell Be tip onto the Rubber 80 tip. Insert this stack into the cap with Jell Be toward the barrel and Rubber 80 toward the cap’s outer end.
  6. Cut 3.1–3.2 cm from the rounded end of the Jimnie Knock/Hyperjell grip and insert it rounded end first.
  7. Overgrip the cap with three G3 grip blocks, two Anyball blocks and three D1-K blocks, following the source’s layout.
  8. Cut an HF backplug, retaining 8 mm from the rounded end to the flat boundary, and fit it at the cap’s outer end.
  9. Add a small amount of tape at the G3 rear rim for a firmer fit and attach the cap.

  1. Disassemble the Vision Elite cap, removing its coloured end piece and internal rubber. Trim the clip, retaining approximately 1.9 cm, then replace the end piece.
  2. Place the G3 cap rubber inside the Hi-Tec-C tip and insert this assembly into the cap.
  3. Insert a whole RSVP grip. Add approximately 2 mm of Jimnie Knock grip if needed for fit and balance; this spacer is optional.
  4. Prepare the G3 barrel and remove its backplug.
  5. Add an optional 3.1 cm insert to the front grip area.
  6. Fit five Anyball blocks to the G3 front.
  7. Stack the front tips in this order: plastic G3, Sailor Gel, then Signo. Cover them with a whole Hyperjell grip, reversed so its flat side enters first.
  8. Push the covered stack firmly onto the front. The G3 plastic tip can be screwed back on if needed; the creator also allows leaving it held by the tight grip fit.
  9. Add an optional barrel insert and attach the prepared Vision Elite cap.

  2. Fit a 7.5 mm smooth G3 grip section followed by a 9 mm Signo DX section to the G3 front.
  3. Replace the plastic G3 tip and stack a SuperGrip ballpoint plastic tip, Hi-Tec-C tip and G1 tip over it, in that order.
  4. Cover the stack with a whole G2 grip in reverse orientation, striped end toward the barrel.
  5. Empty the Hi-Tec Point V5 cap by removing its end piece and internal spring, then replace the end piece.
  6. Inside the V5 cap, insert a G1 tip followed by an Airblanc tip.
  7. Cut 2.4 cm of Hyperjell grip. Cut 1.6 cm of HF grip, roll it and insert it into the Hyperjell section.
  8. Cut 7 mm from the striped G3 grip section, roll it and insert it into the same Hyperjell section. Insert the nested grips into the cap.
  9. Add an optional barrel insert, tape the G3 rear and attach the prepared cap.
