Minwoo was a German pen spinner associated with the German Pen Spinning Community (GPC) during the late 2000s and early 2010s. He was known for two-handed spinning, international tournament appearances, the Minovate collaboration series, and the eponymous Minwoo mod.[1]

Competitive spinning

Minwoo represented GPC at the 2008 World Cup and was part of the team that finished fourth. He also appeared on the UPSB team that finished second at the 2008 Asian Cup.[2]

At the 2009 World Tournament, Minwoo finished second behind Spinnerpeem, with a narrow score gap of just one point (174 vs 173)[3][4]

Minwoo was on GPC's 2010 World Cup roster. He won the doubles match with TheKOok against JEB and the artistic Body and Environment match against ZzaJae of KPSA.[5] He also registered for World Tournament 2011 but ultimately did not participate.[6]

World Cup 2012 controversy

During Round 5 of the 2012 World Cup, Minwoo's GPC submission became the subject of a dispute over video editing in a two-handed section. LPSA spinner Taichi1082 performed a levels adjustment on the video revealing that Minwoo had filmed each hand separately and then spliced the two videos together in post to give the appearance of performing with two hands at once.[7]

Minwoo subsequently quit pen spinning and deleted his YouTube channel, along with all of the content of his Pen Spinning Online project with Samuirai.[8]

Collaborations and community work

Minwoo organized the Minovate collaboration-video series. The UPSB v3 archive preserves entries for Minovate, Minovate 2nd [Trailer], and the VengeancE trailer, as well as collaborations and tag videos involving Minwoo and other international spinners.[9]

He also worked with Samuirai on Penspinning: Online, a project for a tutorial site and social network for pen spinners that was launched in 2012, but became defunct after the WC12 cheating controversy..[10]

Pen Modding

Minwoo is the creator of the famous Minwoo Mod, a single sided, double capped pen that he used in his WT09 run and beyond. He also created the Minovate DC, a DC superpirat mod that would be used by himself and Eriror.[11]
