BPSC

The Belgian Pen Spinning Community (BPSC), also called the Belgium Pen Spinning Board in international tournament records, was a Belgian pen spinning community. It developed from the Belgium Pen Spinning Team (BPST) in 2008 and maintained forums at bpsc.free-boards.net and penspinning-be.com.

BPSC was best known competitively for finishing runner-up in the Pen Spinning World Cup 2010. Its own forum became inactive around late 2011, after which Belgian members increasingly participated through the French-speaking FPSB. BPSC nevertheless continued to be used as a tournament affiliation until 2014.

History

BPST

The community was first organized as the Belgium Pen Spinning Team. A later history gives 27 December 2006 as its founding date and names Trademark, Yogui and WestMyst as its founders. By 2 June 2008, the public BPST forum had 299 registered members and 18,465 posts. Its sections covered learning, pen modification, trading, videos, battles, tournaments and meetings. Although the board was primarily French-speaking, it also provided areas for French, English and Dutch discussion.

Formation of BPSC

During 2008, BPST was replaced by the Belgian Pen Spinning Community. The exact public launch date is unclear. Later accounts place the transition in October or November, while an archived member list records administrator accounts from June 2008; these dates may reflect development of the replacement forum or imported accounts rather than its public opening. The community initially used bpsc.free-boards.net and later penspinning-be.com. The latter presented an English-language interface while retaining a multilingual membership.

By 2 March 2011, the BPSC forum recorded 384 users and 23,857 posts. Active areas included presentations, meetings, collaboration and solo videos, spinner databases, battles and tournaments. The archive also records an international collaboration project with NLPSC, illustrating BPSC's links with other national communities.

Competitive peak

BPSC's strongest team result was at the Pen Spinning World Cup 2010. Its roster consisted of Gisele8, Ivabra, Knuckles, Kr4zy, Littleboy and Voltaic. After qualifying fourth, BPSC advanced from a group containing THPSC, HKPSA and TWPS, then defeated GPC 2–1 in the semi-final. It lost the final 0–3 to Thailand's THPSC and finished second place.

BPSC was represented at the 2011 World Tournament by Gisele8, Ivabra, Kr4zy, Trushu and Voltaic. None advanced beyond the first round.

Decline and relationship with FPSB

Activity declined during 2011. The staff released BPSC Final in July as a farewell to the board's active era, while noting that the video did not announce the immediate closure of the website. Belgian members increasingly participated with FPSB; Gisele8 and Ivabra were part of the FPSB team that won the 2012 World Cup.

BPSC nevertheless remained a separate competitive affiliation for several years. Blue, Gisele8 and Ivabra entered the 2013 World Tournament under BPSC. Ivabra defeated Gisele8 in round 2 and reached the semi-finals, where he lost to the eventual champion Sutomo, placing joint third–fourth. In the 2014 World Cup, Blue and Ivabra joined German and Spanish spinners in the GSB alliance, which also finished joint third–fourth. The surviving website address was redirecting to a domain-parking service by May 2013.

Consequently, late 2011 is generally treated as the end of BPSC's active forum era rather than the immediate end of the name. Its competitive identity persisted through the 2013 World Tournament and the 2014 GSB alliance before later histories treated the community as incorporated into FPSB.
