Hold

Holds describe tricks in which the pen is held still in a certain, non-unstable slot. The tricks remain as a niche gimmick to incorporate into one's spinning due to the lack of variations can be done using the position itself.
History
It is probable that holds being done using the fingers has been done by other double-jointed spinners before, but Challenges (SPSC) recorded himself doing a middlehold in 2008, which led Freeman to make a video[1]. Shortly after, the middle hold name was given by Shadowserpant in the UPSB NC. In that same year, Freeman also posted a video showcasing Palmholds[2].
Variations
Fingerhold
During a (finger)hold, the pen is hold steady just by one finger, in a position that usually requires unusual flexibility. For example, in a middlehold, the pen is held between 2z and 2y, while locking the 1st interphalangeal joint (2xy). This is usually done in palm side or palm down to emphasize the fact that the pen is actually held by the finger and it’s not just balanced over it.
middlehold = (PS) hold 2y2z
Palmhold
A hold done by the palm instead of the fingers.
Wristhold/Sleevehold

A hold done by the wrist instead of the fingers. Alternatively the sleeve can also be used to achieve the same effect. Although, such a variation makes the trick slightly easier to do.
Noel Stall

Although it is called a stall, it is a hold done between the thumb, pinky and the back of the index knuckle. The proper notation for it is stall Tb4b.1xb
Noel was the first to do the trick in 2019. In 2020, Menowa*popularized it with his submission for the collab Styl[3].
