Hibachi Mod – Ponkotu’s version
More actions
Hibachi Mod – Ponkotu's version is a variation of the Hibachi mod credited to Ponkotu. It uses an Akashiya brush-pen barrel. A related single-sided Akashiya build was used by Hibachi, but its relationship to Ponkotu's version is unconfirmed.[1][2]
Construction
This version combines a layered front grip with a nested two-cap rear assembly.[1]
Parts needed
- 1 Akashiya brush pen (barrel)
- 1 Pentel Keityo (KT) (large cap)
- 1 Sailor Gel or IC Liquid (cap)
- 1 Tombow Reporter 2 (grip)
- 1 Pilot G3 (grip)
- 1 Pilot G2 (grip)
- 1 Signo DX (grip)
- 1 Metallic Gel (tip)
- 1 Zebra Jell.Be (tip)
- Dong-A Anyball grips: sections of 4 stripes, 5 stripes, and three 2-stripe sections
Text tutorial
- Empty the Akashiya barrel. Fit the Metallic Gel tip followed by the Jell.Be tip, and add regular tape around the assembly.
- Over the tip assembly, fit 4 Anyball stripes followed by the G2 grip.
- Add one full Anyball grip and another 4 stripes over the previous assembly.
- Remove the Reporter grip as shown below. Put the Reporter grip over the Anyball grip, then add a Signo grip cut to a suitable length at the front.
- The front is assembled. Split the G3 grip into smooth and ridged sections; keep those sections and do not use the holed part.
- Hollow the Keityo cap. Put the smooth G3 section over the cap and the ridged section inside it, with 2 Anyball stripes on the cap.
- Remove the clip and small protruding plastic tip from the Sailor cap, then fit that cap over the Keityo cap.
- Add one Anyball grip over the cap, then about half a grip over it.
- Fit the cap assembly on the rear of the Akashiya barrel.
Related Akashiya build
The single-sided Akashiya mod used by Hibachi is heavy and measures about 21 cm before the barrel is shortened. It was once mistaken for a double-ended pen. Its construction changed over time; the method below represents one commonly known build. It is not confirmed to be the same as Ponkotu's version.[2]
