Pserhome (PSH; Chinese: 转笔者之家, literally “Pen Spinner’s Home”) is a Mandarin-language pen spinning community centred on Mainland China. Founded by Solar and 3+7 in 2005, it has operated as a forum, tutorial and media platform, and organiser of pen-spinning activities.
History
Foundation and early forum
Before the creation of PSH, the Baidu Tieba communication platform hosted communities on many topics since its creation in December 2003, with a community for Pen Spinning existing on the site. Spinners in Mainland China would also access websites such as KiT-CaT Tricks and Penzone from Hong Kong, but this limited the depth of the information to the Guangdong province, whose residents could read both Mandarin and Cantonese.
Solar and 3+7 met through the early Chinese-language pen-spinning scene around 2004. They founded Pserhome on 3 September 2005.[1] The community was initially promoted through other forums, chat groups and video platforms. Its early use of free hosting led to instability and site moves.[2]
An April 2006 archive of the first forum records 438 members and 2,867 topics. Its boards included announcements, beginner discussion, tutorials, advanced technique, pen modification, pen photography and video sharing. 3+7 and Solar moderated several of the core boards. The forum linked to KiT-CaT, Penzone and UPSB, reflecting PSH's early connections with the wider international community.[3]
Growth and activities
By January 2012, the later Discuz forum reported 126,769 members and 819,784 posts. In addition to discussion boards, it hosted tutorial and modding resources, member videos, collaboration projects, competitions, trading, and local meetup organisation.[4]
PSH members and staff produced several notable Chinese-language resources. EaglE, a PSH member from 2006, helped organise Hua Hun (2007), described by PSH as the first global Chinese pen-spinning collaboration video, and the Hundred-style Pen Spinning tutorial series (2008). A revised New Hundred-style Pen Spinning series was produced with Spinny / 粤转者 in 2013.[5]
In 2011, EaglE founded the Guangzhou offline group Spinny / 粤转者 and helped organise the first nationwide offline pen-spinning competition in China. PSH and Spinny later jointly organised Guangzhou pen-spinning meetings, including events in 2014 and 2017; the 2017 meeting had approximately one hundred attendees.[6]
In 2016, PSH's “Foundation Plan” supported recognised school pen-spinning clubs through organisational resources and supplied pens, and connected club organisers through a national network.[7]
International competition
PSH entered a six-spinner team in the Pen Spinning World Cup 2008, the first World Cup. The team consisted of IceMt, Aces.H, Answer, 12ve, CNstar and Pale Master; it finished fifth in its initial group and did not advance.
PSH later reached the quarter-finals of the 2012 World Cup and the final of the Pen Spinning World Cup 2014, where it lost 2–1 to JEB.[8][9]
