Zombo is a Canadian pen spinner and administrator associated with UPSB and UCPSB. His contributions include developing the Counter concept, organising international tournaments, and supporting community research and media projects. He also appeared in early collaboration videos, including UPSB + Pendolsa Collaboration Video Part 2.[1][2][3][4]
History
Zombo was active by approximately 2003, when Aaron C. Robertson interviewed him for Pen Spinning 3K. His precise starting date is unconfirmed.[5]
Contemporary Japanese community documentation identifies him as a Canadian spinner living in a French-speaking region. It describes his frequent participation on UPSB, including welcoming new members, and records his involvement with FPSB.[2]
Following the closure of UPSB v2, he joined UCPSB’s moderation team during its January 2006 relaunch.[5] He remained active during the UPSB v3 era, posting announcements concerning tournaments, podcasts, the wiki and the Research Department.[4]

Counter
Zombo is credited with originating the Counter concept. A Counter interrupts a trick partway through its motion and reverses its direction, usually through a fingerless push, bringing the pen back towards its starting position. This produces a hybrid of movements in opposite directions.[6] [1]
Basketball Spin =
Zombo devised and popularised the Basketball Spin. A 2004 recording shows him performing Basketball Spin 2.0 with a green RSVP MX. He also demonstrated a double transfer between fingertips.[5]
Zombo Trick
The Zombo Trick, an archaic trick name used in Korean terminology, refers to an IndexAround Reverse caught on the index finger alone. The historical dictionary gives its notation as IA rev 0.75 12-11.[5]
Collaboration videos =
Zombo appeared in UPSB + Pendolsa Collaboration Video Part 2, also circulated as Superhandz Part 2. The contemporary video index places his entry after Phoenix and before GPC.[3]
Other appearances recorded in contemporary community documentation include FPSB Collab 1st and Revival.[2]
Community involvement
Early competitions
As a Battle Records Committee member, Zombo proposed the unrealised Universal Pen Spinning League in 2004. On 14 January 2005, he announced Capture the Throne, a ten-round challenge competition.[5]
International tournaments
Zombo organised the 2007 Team Spinning Tournament, involving sixteen teams from eight boards. Its singles-and-doubles format and managerial pairing rules helped inform later World Cups.[5]
He worked with CrAsH on World Cup 2008 and World Tournament 2009, and organised World Tournament 2011. World Cup 2014 is identified as his final tournament.[5]
The UPSB v3 archive preserves numerous tournament announcements under his name, including World Cup 2008 and 2010 rules, registration, matchups and results. He also posted threads coordinating UPSB’s World Tournament 2009 selection and the UPSB Tournament 2010.[4]
Research and documentation
Zombo supported the community’s documentation projects including the UPSB wiki.[4] He made numerous contributions to pen spinning research as one of the chief representatives for the UPSB research department, publishing his Structural Stability Theory, Combo Transformation Method and Discourse of the Metaphysics of Pen Spinning.
UPSB Podcast
Zombo was involved in producing and announcing the UPSB podcast. The surviving forum index records episodes featuring Kam and David Weis, alongside editions covering World Cup finals. These programmes brought interviews and tournament discussion into the community’s media output.[4]
