The Fenboss is an inverted mod made by V 0 1 D in 2016. It is relatively light for its size class and is designed so that grip sections are between all contact points to prevent future rattling.
Construction
Parts needed
- 2x Emboss (body, two small caps)
- 2x Uni-ball Alpha Gel (two tips)
- 2x Pilot Dr. Grip (two grips)
- 2x Anyball (Two grips)
- 2x Pentel ColorTwin or ACT (two caps)
- 2x Pentel Hybrid Gel Grip or Pentel RSVP or similar (two thin grips).
Text tutorial
Please see diagram below for visual representation of how to assemble the ends.

- Remove the Emboss caps and pull out the backplug and nibs of an Emboss pen to remove the inktube. Replace backplug on the pen when done.
- Cut small caps from the lip to 8-10mm each.
- Place small cap segments on either side of the emboss pen to complete the body.
- Remove the CT/ACT caps and hollow them out by hitting the extruding middle segment with a mallet or hammer.
- Remove Dr. Grip grips and cut each to 3-4cm long. Place on the CT/ACT caps with about 1/3rd overhang.
- Cut 2–3 rings of Anyball from the side with the big ring. Repeat for second anyball grip.
- Place the small anyball segments on the alpha gel tips and push them through the Dr. Grip grips until they are snug against the CT/ACT caps, with part of the anyball and the lip of the alpha gel extruding from the hollowed cap.
- Cut small sections of RSVP/HGG grip and put them on the front and backplug of the emboss body.
- Use a lubricating substance on the outside of the grips only and force the CT/ACT caps on top. This is difficult and may take several tries to get the caps on with a proper seal.
- Complete.
Adjustments
- The Alpha Gel tips can be substituted for Dr. Grip tips, but this causes bulging where the lip of the tip is and makes the mod heavier. Gold Dr. Grip tips were used in the original 2016 version of the mod.
- The backplug of the emboss barrel can be removed and replaced with a comssa barrel to remove the backplug lip. However, as the barrel is tapered it leaves a noticeable drop in width at the backplug side when doing this.
- Plenty of colour variations are possible due to colored emboss caps, CT/ACT caps, emboss bodies and both anyball and Dr. Grip grips.
- The mod can be made slightly longer or shorter by increasing the length of the small emboss cap sections.
