The Fenboss is an inverted mod made by V 0 1 D in 2016. It is relatively light for its size class and is designed so that grip sections are between all contact points to prevent future rattling.

Construction

Parts needed

2x Emboss (body, two small caps)
2x Uni-ball Alpha Gel (two tips)
2x Pilot Dr. Grip (two grips)
2x Anyball (Two grips)
2x Pentel ColorTwin or ACT (two caps)
2x Pentel Hybrid Gel Grip or Pentel RSVP or similar (two thin grips).

Text tutorial

The diagram shows the end assembly; the thin grip between the Emboss barrel and outer cap is omitted.

Remove the Emboss caps, backplug, nibs and ink tube. Refit the backplug.
Cut each small Emboss cap to 8–10 mm, measured from its lip.
Fit a small cap section onto each end of the Emboss barrel.
Hollow out both ColorTwin or ACT caps by removing the protruding centre section with a mallet or hammer.
Cut each Dr. Grip grip to 3–4 cm. Fit one onto each ColorTwin/ACT cap, leaving approximately one-third overhanging for the tip.
Cut a two- or three-ring section from the large-ring end of each Anyball grip.
Remove the rings from both Alpha Gel tips. Fit an Anyball section over each tip, then push the assemblies into the Dr. Grip grips until the Anyball sections sit snugly against the ColorTwin/ACT caps. Part of each Anyball section and the Alpha Gel tip lip should protrude through the hollowed cap.
Cut two short sections of RSVP or HGG grip. Fit one over the remaining front section of the Emboss barrel and the other over its backplug.
Lubricate only the outside of these thin grip sections and carefully push the completed outer caps over them until snug. Excessive force can break the caps.

Adjustments

The Alpha Gel tips can be substituted for Dr. Grip tips, but this causes bulging where the lip of the tip is and makes the mod heavier. Gold Dr. Grip tips were used in the original 2016 version of the mod.
The backplug of the emboss barrel can be removed and replaced with a comssa barrel to remove the backplug lip. However, as the barrel is tapered it leaves a noticeable drop in width at the backplug side when doing this.
Plenty of colour variations are possible due to colored emboss caps, CT/ACT caps, emboss bodies and both anyball and Dr. Grip grips.
The mod can be made slightly longer or shorter by increasing the length of the small emboss cap sections.
