Fen Spinner Wiki:TODO
This is a page for important tasks that need to be completed to improve the wiki.
Priority Tasks
Fix/delete dummy pages
There are a lot of incredibly annoying pages that just write the information that's contained in the title of the page, or don't even have a single complete sentence. They need to be fixed ASAP or deleted so that they do not give the illusion that there is a completed page there. There is no reason to have a page that contains NO information.
Base pen mod pages
We need a lot more pen mod pages. They do not need to have written tutorials, a description of the mod, a picture and the infobox filled out is enough, with a video tutorial added being particularly good. Written tutorials can come later on.
Common pens for modding
There's still a lot of these to fill in, and more will become apparent when we start adding more pen mods. The best way to do it is to put a description and an image of the pen, ideally from a website like JetPens or Penwish.
Community History
This is tedious but needs doing. Find the old-timers from various boards and quiz them about the history of the boards, in order to fill in the details about their community. A good example of this filled out is UPSB. Additionally, archives can provide an invaluable service if you can get a decent archive of a forum. Check for an "Announcements" or equivalent forum on the archive to find the key points of the site's history.
RPD's book will eventually help a little with this when it comes out, but we can expect the amount of detail to be relatively limited. RPD's book will limit community histories to a subchapter, while a wiki page can contain enough information for an entire chapter.
Events
There's events like SpinFest 2019 and so on that need writing up, as well as previous world tournaments and World Cups. See SpinFest 2021 and Pen Spinning World Tournament 2007 or Asian Cup 2008 for info on how to fill pages like these in. The details for filling these in can be found on archives or asking in The Collective discord.
Tricks
Pages on tricks need to be made. There's some existing precedent in the archive of the original UPSB Wiki, with the older one having far more pages, but with many inaccessible.
Modding Techniques
Pages on cutting barrels, grips etc need to be made to go with the rest of the modding pages.
Copy-editing
A lot of pages have poor spelling/grammar. This is mostly due to many people not using spelling/grammar plugins. This can be fixed by checking the text in an editor like LibreOffice Writer or Microsoft Word and then replacing the text with a corrected version.
Remove copy-paste intros
Many pages currently suffer from copy-paste intro sentences like "The blah is most known for blah", which does not always read easily and becomes tackier as pages repeatedly use the same opening line. Pages should have an opening line that best suits the page itself, there is no compulsion to use the exact same opening.
Fix video formatting
Where there is more than one video on a page, videos should be formatted into a collapsible div so that they do not fill up the entire page. See VicGotGame or Bonkura to see how this is done.
Non-Priority Tasks
Fix Double Redirects
As of 18/2/2021 these are fixed, you can check the list of double redirects at Special:DoubleRedirects
With the page moves that have been made there has been an uptick in redirects that redirect to another redirect page. This is an issue as a double redirect doesn't automatically take you to the final page. Redirect pages should be edited to go straight to an actual page, not another redirect. A bot may be put in place for this in future.
