The '''Pen Spinning World Tournament''' or '''World Tournament''' is an international pen spinning competition held every two years since its foundation in 2007.

The aim of the World Tournament is to be the highest level of competition in the hobby, to decide the [[Pen Spinning World Champion]].

==History==
The first World Tournament was organized by [[CrAsH]] and held in early 2007. It involved 80 spinners from 8 communities, 10 from each. The first 4 rounds were single elimination, reducing the amount of spinners down to 5 finalists. Then two further rounds reduced the 5 remaining spinners to a single winner.

The early judging and round systems of [[Pen Spinning World Tournament 2007|World Tournament 2007]] were questionable even for the time, with several unexpected results. For example, 'Speed' was considered as part of the criteria.

Future World Tournaments continually tried to improve upon the criteria and organizing strategy, with results becoming more consistent towards the later years of the hobby, despite a rocky start in the first decade of competition.

Organized by CrAsH and [[Zombo]], featuring 64 participants with 6 rounds of single elimination. The first successful debut of power tricks in serious competition. Won by [[Spinnerpeem]].

Organized by Zombo. With 56 participants a group phase with variable group size was introduced for round 1, then 5 rounds of single elimination. Won by [[S777]].

===2013===

Organized again by Zombo. The largest World Tournament to date with 105 participants. Despite this, it used the same round format as in 2011. Won by [[Sutomo]].

===2015===

Organized for the first time by [[Zkhan]] with 64 spinners from 17 communities. Won by [[Menowa*]].

===2017===

After originally being cancelled by Zkhan, he eventually organized it in the second half of 2017 after the Pendolsa World Tournament. With 64 spinners from 17 boards and 6 rounds, it was mixed up by the inclusion of two group phases at the beginning. Won by [[Sirapob]].

===2019===

First time that the tournament had been split into two halves. With an A side for advanced spinners and a B side for beginners to the competitive scene. Won by [[i.suk]].

==PenDolSa World Tournament 2017==
After an initial cancellation of World Tournament 2017 by Zkhan, [[Tez]] and [[Mr.LSC]] from [[PDS]] organized a replacement tournament with a 500 USD first prize.

With only 45 participants from 11 boards, PWT17 had a rocky start when future WT19 winner [[i.suk]], masquerading under the different name 'feint' received very low scores and was knocked out in the first round. The controversy over PWT17 resulted in the 'official' World Tournament being announced by Zkhan in the second half of 2017, reversing his previous statement.

After accepting registrations for SpinFest in 2020<ref>[https://twitter.com/Spinfest/status/1333090728273121280 Tweet announcing sign-ups for SpinFest 2021]</ref>, the official timetable was announced on December 28th, 2020. There was some surprise about [[Fen Spinner]] making it to the lineup, as the community was new and not explicitly tied to any known country or prior community.

The event started with [[VNPS]] releasing their video "Tết 14th x Spinfest 21" early on February 11th 2021, with the editing style receiving positive reception. [[IPSB|IPSB's]] CV "Batik" (named after Indonesian cloth dyeing<ref>[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batik Wikipedia article on Batik]</ref>) released on schedule on the 22nd of February with an edit featuring iconic imagery from Indonesia, with praise being given to the spinners. [[The Workshop|The Workshop's]] "Experiences" CV arrived on March 1st, with appearances from famous spinners originally from UPSB such as [[Baaron]] and [[i.suk]], plus spinners from other boards such as [[Tuanz]] and [[RPD]]. The edit received criticism for various issues, such as cutting off spinners and weak effects.

[[THPSC|THPSC's]] "Teskal" released one day early on March 7th, featuring a cast of mainly newer Thai spinners, plus board administrator [[Coffeelucky]]. It was relatively short as the first CV in Spinfest 2021 to be under 2 minutes in length, but it received praise for its clean use of motion graphics in the edit and the featuring of new talent. [[PHPS]] released their submission "[PHPS RISING]" on March 15th, with a darker, tron-inspired edit featuring a 3D intro and motion graphics. [[SGPSC|SGPSC's]] submission arrived one day early on March 28th, with an edit that began retro-style, then transitioned to a more traditional motion graphic edit. The spinners were praised for their combos, but the intro was criticized for being too long, at 26 seconds. [[PPP]] released their untitled submission on April 5th, with a retro videogame theme featuring an intro with a select screen for the boards in the event. Notably Fen Spinner was misspelled to "Pen Spinner", it was not known if this was intentional. It incorporated the drop in [[Kozyr|Kozyr's]] combo as a "Game Over" screen, and the edit was praised for its originality, plus additional praise being given to the wide cast of PPP spinners present.

[[Fen Spinner]] released "Fen Spinner 1st" as their submission on April 12th with a live premiere. It featured heavy use of visual effects including 3D animation and 2D motion graphics, and had a cast of new generation spinners that also represented other boards. The editing was divisive, with a mix of both heavy praise for the ambitious visual effects synced to music and criticism of the pacing and distractions present in the edit.

There was some surprise about [[Fen Spinner]] making it to the lineup, as the community was new and not explicitly tied to any known country or prior community.

The event started with [[VNPS]] releasing their video "Tết 14th x Spinfest 21" early on February 11th 2021, with the editing style receiving positive reception. [[IPSB|IPSB's]] CV "Batik" (named after Indonesian cloth dyeing<ref>[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batik Wikipedia article on Batik]</ref>) released on schedule on the 22nd of February with an edit featuring iconic imagery from Indonesia, with praise being given to the spinners. [[The Workshop|The Workshop's]] "Experiences" CV arrived on March 1st, with appearances from famous spinners originally from UPSB such as [[Baaron]] and [[i.suk]], plus spinners from other boards such as [[Tuanz]] and [[RPD]].
